Annual Dinner & Meeting - November 16

Thank you to everyone who attended our annual dinner and meeting for 2022 at the beautiful and spacious Kirkwood Performing Arts Center. We were happy to get back to regularly hosting in-person events this year after a long period of COVID precautions. This year's dinner had one of our strongest turn outs yet with nearly 150 guests attending.

Chef de Art Catering created a gorgeous display and hand crafted ice sculpture along side a variety of Japanese dishes and sushi that were served throughout the night. We also received a number of wonderful auction item donations this year, some of which were highly contested! Thank you to those who donated, especially Kokoro Care Packages, Banner Public Affairs, UCBC, AnimeSTL, JASWA, STAGES STL, Zoletk, Kaori Ishijima, Janet Shulman and Jim and Jane Lammers.

Dinner and Sake Pairing at The Bellwether - October 25

Our third in a series of four sake tastings was on October 25 at The Bellwether. Around 30 attendees turned up to enjoy a night of sake tasting paired along side a delicious four-course prix fixe meal, created by chef Marco Juehne, that was specially prepared for this occasion.

This sake-tasting sandbox series of events is made possible by a generous grant from Japan Foundation.

Tower Grove Park Birthday Bash - October 23

Tower Grove Park celebrated their 150th birthday with their 'Birthday Bash' that featured 15 food trucks, live music performances and more. We were invited to host a booth at their event to demonstrate and spread the beautiful art of shodou, Japanese calligraphy. Special thanks to Hiroko Yoshii for helping out!

Red Lantern Night Market - July 23

We were happy to participate in the Red Lantern Night Market, a Japanese-themed-bazaar, at the Steinberg Skating Rink on July 23. Guests were able to experience authentic Japanese culture through food, drinks and entertainment, including a spectacular taiko performance from the talented St. Louis Osuwa Taiko group, as well as our own purikura-style photo booth!

Trivia Night - July 16

Although a smaller than expected turnout, our 4th Trivia Night Fundraiser on July 16 was still a successful event full of fun, good food, free drink, laughs, unique auction items, and most of all - good company! The winners went home with a $500 CASH PRIZE!

An Afternoon of Sake Tasting - June 26

The beautiful Piper Pam House in Tower Grove Park was the site of the second in our series of four sake-tasting events. More than 120 people showed up (after a little bit of afternoon rain) on June 26 to sample sake and food, watch Okinawan Eisa dancers, get calligraphy "tattoos," take advantage of our purikura-style photo booth, learn how to roll sushi, taste a custom sake cocktail, and learn all about sake!!

This sake-tasting sandbox series of events is made possible by a generous grant from Japan Foundation.

AnimeSTL - April 22~24

AnimeSTL, the biggest anime convention in the St. Louis area, was held at the St. Charles Convention Center from April 22 to April 24. Year after year, people gather at AnimeSTL to share their love of everything anime and manga by cosplaying as their favorite characters and meeting voice actors, artists and fashion designers in the industry. We had the opportunity to set up a purikura-style photo booth at the entrance to exhibition hall so attendees could capture the moment or share their cosplay!

An Evening of Sake Tasting - April 21

We held the first of a series of four sake-tasting events on April 21 at Parker's Table. Limited to just 30 attendees, this intimate event featured tastings of five different sakes and an in-depth discussion, presentation, and exploration led by certified sommelier and sake expert, Patricia Wamhoff.

This sake-tasting sandbox series of events is made possible by a generous grant from Japan Foundation.

2022 Shinnenkai - Year of the Tiger

We had a delightful time at our Shinnenkai Sunday and hope the Tiger chases away the bad so we can all have a good 2022. Thank you to Chef Kenji and his staff at Sushi Sen for providing a wonderful meal, to those who generously bought raffle tickets to help support the JAS mission of sharing Japanese culture and building friendships, and to Consul General Tajima of Chicago for sending his kind and hopeful remarks!
