2024 Sake Cocktail Contest - April 17

JAS brought back our popular Sake Cocktail Competition at Platypus down in St. Louis. Five expert cocktail makers were challenged to create their own recipe for a drink that contained at least one sake from Tozai Sake and one spirit from Holladay Distillery, then make it for judges to taste in front of a live audience.

We would like to give a special thanks to Platypus for hosting us, and to all who competed in our competition.

2024 Geostrategies Meeting - March 21

JAS collaborated with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation host an in-person Live Q&A that discussed the implications for Japan and the US of the tensions between China and Taiwan. Dr. Zack Cooper and Dr. Satoru Mori led the discussion and former US Senator Jim Talent moderated.

After some brief introductions, Dr. Cooper began with a brief history of China's role in U.S. Politics and how their actions have implications for the country. Dr. Satoru Mori followed with an overview of how Japan views the current situation going on between China, Taiwan, and how the U.S. plays a role in that.

2024 Shinnenkai - Year of the Dragon - January 20

This was a special shinnenkai as JAS president Greg Gorman was presented with the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendation by Consul General Jun Yanagi in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening JASSTL as an organization and promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the U.S.

Wasabi Sushi Bar in St. Charles served a wonderful meal, which included an assortment of sushi.  Thank you very much to Jeremy Johnson of AnimeSTL for being our 2024 Kagami Biraki Sponsor! This sponsorship made our ceremonial sake-cask opening possible, and provided our guests with the sake needed for the New Year Kampai!
